I am a newb, please be gentle.
I recently purchased a used (in excellent physical condition) Soundstream 405 amplifier. It is a five channel amp that powers my whole system. It is installed in my 2000 Honda Accord, the alternator is 3 months old, the battery is 6 months old. I just installed this unit in early march and had no issues until it started getting a pretty warm here in chicago.
What happens is when I run the car stereo for a while then turn the car off and get back in the stereo cuts out. If the headlights are off and the A/C is off it does not happen as often (if at all). Since it's been so warm I need to run the A/C. Another thing, the stereo does not sound as good as it did when I first installed it. I have triple checked the power feed and the ground both are secure. I have not yet verified that all my speakers are working properly but since they are new I doubt that is the issue.
One more thing, when the amp cuts out and I pop the trunk to check things out it is not excessively hot. In fact it is barely warm at all.
Do I need a cap? Should I send the amp in somewhere for service? Should I sell the car?
Your help is appreciated.
Marc.
