sound wave directions???????????

ok, i was thinking about buying 2 12" cvr's and making a long style truck box. now, i wanted the ports to come out on either sides of the two seats. so one by my door and, one by the passenger door. i have a reg can dodge ram. i was thinking with higher notes in the bass line. the only thing the sound waves will directly hit will be the dash and thats 4 feet away. i have an L7 right now and i cant get any higher notes in the bass line from it. i mean they come through but, there not loud at all. so i wondering if i will just have the same problem. maybe i should seal up the l7 and, down fire it?
