sound to light circuit?

so ive been wanting to build some light boxes for my band but we dont have a keyboard so really no way to control the lights. anybody know of a module that you can buy or a circuit that depending on the amplitude of the sound, will proportionally trigger the light. essentially, if we're playing at a low volume, the lights are dimmer then we play super loud and all of the sudden they get bright.

any input would be appreciated

why not just get a sound activation modual or you could go to musiciansfriend.com i'm pretty sure that they have some stuff like that there

we just played a show with a band who had light boxes, i assumed they used something like this until i noticed a tiny asian kid sitting crosslegged in the back of the stage with a powerstrip in each hand, pushing buttons with the music. we all LOLed pretty hard
