Sound deadning

I have a few questions if you dont mind.I understand where to apply the edead in the door panel, but where would that piece of foam go? and how does the foam seal the door off more than the edead?

What foam, the acoustic foam like THIS?? That foam would cover the the door panel that's behind the speaker, applied over the "regular" sound deadener. Since "regular" sound deadening is just simply mass loading the panel (changing is resonant frequency, which makes it rattle less), you apply the foam over it to barrier load the panel (i.e. to actually absorb the soundwaves).

i see. so its just a more efficient way of sealing off the doors then the stock piece. so i should still put one layer of this in, even though i will be adding 3 layers of edead vs1.0

Carpet padding woud work. Be careful when adding this foam that you do not overstuff because you might not be able to get the panel back on because the foam will be pushing out. I ran in to this on a couple of spots and had to remove foam in certain areas.

Would one not also be able to apply the padding to the back of the doorpanel itself, since the purpose of this layer is to cancel frequencies? It woiuld essentially cover the same perimiter, just in a different location.

As opposed to applying it to inside the door, or in addition to??

Will this "acoustic foam" absorb water?

It rains like a motha over here, and I really want to try some of this foam, I just don't want a bunch of water-laden sponges sealed inside my door.. Anyone? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif

I just did my doors. Did the outer part with two layers of Peal and Seal, three behind the speaker itself, and then used Liquid Nails to apply a layer of 1/2" Hair Pile on top of that. Then sealed all the holes on the inner door with A/C ducting tape and did a layer of peal and seal over that. Doors sound like a Lexus now when you shut them.
