Right, they got caught in the lie about being butyl based so they changed. So now all you have to do is figure out what their current lies are and go from there. Why do business with a company like that?that sounddeaner show down is oldthe new edead is butyl based
Not a replacement, alternatives.is sound deadner, the replacement for dynomat, or an excel to dynomat?
Seriously. FatMat and B-Quiet Extreme are ASPHALT - search for all of the reasons this is a terrible idea. The new eDeads are butyl, but they use a Mylar facing instead of aluminum foil. Aluminum foil is more effective for sound deadening and Mylar is a potential fire hazard. Butyl burns. Foil snuffs it out. Plastic, ???holy shit does anyone on this forum search?? I think it should be manadatory to search before making a new thread, there is a sound deadener thread every day

Find a product with butyl adhesive and aluminum foil. PERIOD! Be careful of eBay, some of the sellers outright lie about the asphalt products they are selling being butyl - Sound Destroyer, Power-Mat, even FatMat says it is butyl on eBay even though the new owner has taken the word off their direct Web site and says he has told the people answering his phones to stop saying it is butyl - after a lot of pressure.
Dynamat Xtreme, Cascade V-Max, Second Skin Damplifier and Damplifier Pro, RAAMmat, B-Quiet Ultimate and Hushmat are all good products. There are always going to be people posting about how great Peel & Seal, FatMat, etc worked for them. These people should be ignored. They either have something to sell, don't have enough experience with products or realize that they made a stupid mistake and are trying to convince themselves otherwise. FatMat=Peel & Seal, but costs more. How can anybody recommend you pay more to have something shipped to you that you can buy in your local Lowe's for less.
Here's the real stupidity of this conversation. RAAMmat is probably the cheapest decent product you can buy. BQ Ultimate is similar. The rest I listed have thicker foil and higher quality adhesives - both good things, but if you are on a budget, RAAMmat will certainly get the job done. Take $25 worth of RAAMmat and install it on the passenger side door. Take $25 worth of FatMat and install it on the drivers side door. You will have put more square feet of product on the FatMat side and probably slightly more mass as well. Doesn't matter, because of the superior damping ability of butyl, you will get a better result on the RAAMmat side and don't have to worry about it falling off, melting or outgassing toxic fumes. It really isn't complicated at all, there is just a lot of really bad information flying around.
I wouldn't do it myself and if I had to pick a place to put FatMat, it would be on the floor of the trunk. I still wouldn't do it, but it isn't likely to fall off the floor and the smell might be minimized. It still could melt and still won't be a great sound deadener.Yep, listen to this guy. He seems to know what he is talking about and others have agree'd with him.
I am probably one of those guys trying to convience myself on the Fat Mat.
Rudy, not to get take over this thread, but do you think I could use the Fat Mat to do the doors if I layer them up and still work? I am ordering some Rammat for the trunk and rear deck where I get most my rattles. Thanks for any help.
**** it! What a waste of money then.I wouldn't do it myself and if I had to pick a place to put FatMat, it would be on the floor of the trunk. THere are a few problems with using it in the doors. Since they are vertical surfaces, you are increasing the chances that it will fall off. Adding layers just adds to the weight on an already weak adhesive bond, increasing the chances of failure. Two specific problems people have reported with asphalt products in their doors. Pieces fall of and get wound up in the window mechanism. Asphalt melting out and clogging the drain holes in the bottom of the doors, causing moisture to accumulate and leading to rust out.
If it is in your budget, I would go all Raamat.will using edead in the trunk floor be ok or should i just use all raamat
