Sound deadening rear deck Nissan Altima

Just finished my installation. The rear deck rattles like a mother as the volume increases. Setup is a 12-inch D series solo(bought new, never used) and a PPI PC2150, the sub is firing up. Is there an easy way to remove the rear deck without breaking or cracking it? Is the tool that is sold to remove the panel fasteners worth it? Should the deadener material be applied to the top of the rear deck or the bottom(ie.. inside the car, or inside the trunk) or both? thanks for the help

what year is ur altima? Mine's an '03 and i've had that problem for the past 2 yrs. The only thing thats ever worked was stuffing a peice of 1/2 inch styrofoam between the 3rd brakelight and the back window...it's ghetto as hell but it works...for me its the rear deck, back windshield, and brake light that make all the noise

Do it proper. pull up the rear deck cover and dynamat that area then open the trunk and dynamat the trunk floor, side walls and inside trunk lid. you can put it on the inside trunk under deck lid if you want. I would. that tool can come in handy. I don't have one and sometimes I have snapped those tabs because I didn't have the correct tool. I usually use a flat head.

Yeah do it right the first time and get it over with. I have had the same problems with my 01 maxima rear deck and plan on fixing it once I move into my new house. Search for and online altima forum, they usually have stickys with suff like this. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/2thumbs.gif.fdc3ba010dbb42b61704534b46d02fe4.gif

I have an 04 Maxima and had that problem. Just adding Dynamat alone will not solve the problem. First off you need to pull that panel off and sound deaden the metal, next a layer or two of ensolite over the sound deadening. The final piece is getting weather stripping foam and applying it to the outline of the brake light between the glass and the light. If done right it will be very hard to notice, especially if your rear window is tinted like mine. A lower cost alternative to the ensolite is stuffing polyfill between the shelp and the metal but I seriously recommend the ensolite. I did all that and mine is dead quiet.

i have a sentra and i deadened the metal shelf and used these little adhesive cork pads that were about 1/4" square and put on the glass to keep the brake light cover from hitting it.

easy and effective solution.

thanks for all the responses. I have an 00 Altima. Now that I think of it the main problem probably is the brake light vibrating off the rear window. I will try and solve that issue first than proceed from there. I am no way trying to build a competition car or anything, I am just trying to get it to sound clean and vibrating plastic and sheet metal is not what I am looking for.
