Sound deadener....how much is too much?

I started sound deadening my car. I've done the drivers door but ran out of time and will do the passenger door next weekend. I also did the trunk lid rather quickly. I got about 2 layers on the lid and it still rattles quite a bit when standing outside next to it. Would it be worth it to keep adding more layers to stop that? And the rear bumper rattles alot too any way to get that to stop? Maybe deaden a certain area?

How much is too much? When the springs on the suspension break because the car weighs too much, then you know you've put too much on! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Actually, for the odd rattle, some strategically placed foam tape can fix some of those. Or tighten up whatever is loose.

im up to 240sq feet
haha wow i bought one roll of raammat and i think that is quite a bit.

I don't think i used enough on my door. I probably didnt use more than 10 sq. feet. I did about 75% of the inside and outside panel with 1 layer then 2 additional layers right behind the speaker and covered it with ensolite as best as i could. How much do you have on your doors?

And i also had some trouble attempting to seal up the holes in the door. The big hole was out farther on top than bottom making it difficult to cover with sheet metal.

Rattles are more effectively treated by locating the rattle and directly fixing it. Deadening is more for adding to the rigidity of the flimsy stock sheet metal to lower energy loss, to create an enclosure for door speakers, and to cancel road noise.

im probably retarded for this in many peoples eyes, but i have 2-3 layers of fatmat in my trunk as well as 2 layers of BXT, thats the floor, the walls, the wheel wells ext, i have 2 layers of BXT on my roof panel, 2 layers of the floor panel, and 2 layers on the doors...i wanted to make sure that it was sealed up...not to mention i have some second skin spectrum spray under the deadener in the trunk as well as over it and several cans of undercoating in the wheel wells....
