Sound Damping

What do i use for sound dampening. I know about dynamat, but it is really expensive. I am only looking to do my trunk, and mostly the lid. what is the easiest to use? Is there a spray that i can use?

For spray on deadener look into the Spectrum sludge from Secondskin.
