I've recently been reading about the whole eD scenario. Why so many stay clear now. So I've got a few questions about it.
Did any of their "flaws" carry over into their amps?
The reason I ask is because I was "in" one of the first shipments of 15As. I got it, it worked for a few months, then it broke. I eventually got one back with a stronger cone. It broke again. The whole time I was using a Tsunami DB1100? amp. Since then I've given the amp to my friend, and it still works great.
I had lost the papers, and was basically denied 15A replacement. I still have it downstairs sitting on a shelf. I went without a sub for a few months, then because of the price, I invested in a 16ov2 + Nine.1 package.
I got it, and it sounded great. Although I could've sworn the 15A was slightly louder. No problems, yet. Then one day (almost a half year ago) it sounded pretty bad. I went through all the problem testing. I had a new Pioneer deck, checked all my wiring, ground wires, amp gains, no air leak in the box. Someone even told me to check the ohms on the sub. I did that as well, I posted what I found, and everyone pretty much agreed they weren't blown.
For some reason, my system still sounded bad. Almost to the point where I wouldn't play it around friends. They knew I was big into car audio, and to hear all this talk, only to hear farts. I sent the sub and amp back for warranty. I didn't mind paying for a checkup. They said both were fine. Still sounded bad.
So around November of this year I said screw it. I started looking around for something new. I ended up getting 2 RE SE 12's in the group buy. I haven't heard them yet, because Phil is building my box.
Now could the problems I was having been part of a faulty amp? I have no way of telling. No other subs to test it with either. If eD said it was fine I took their word for it. But after stumbling across this anti-eD crusade (which I knew nothing about), I'm starting to question if I was a victim.
If that's the case, then I'll probably have to look into a refurb Directed Audio 1100D.
