Sooo......Active=FTW

BTW any ideas on a cover for the set Im pulling would be sweet.

Im gonna use some 1/2 mdf for them more than likely and cut out a circle just smaller than the size of the mid, router the edge, and cover them with a different material, or paint them.

Paint would be kickass, maybe Ill do that.

Im just not sure what logo to put in.

Ive got Alpine, CDT, Knu, Kicker, and Re/Fi products in my car....

Might do an Fi logo.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

yes. unless you bi/tri amp through the passive crossover, theres no accurate way to set time alignment, which makes a huge difference by it self.

being able to set specific crossover points and slopes for each individual speaker is huge.

i found setting the gains while only playing one speaker helpful.

i use volume 50 on my pioneer deck, which goes up to 63 or so. set my subwoofer with a dmm first, then unplug it, and all but one rca, listen to a tweet, or mid by itself and adjust the gain. easier to hear when distortion starts.

Alright, I unhooked the other set of mids. After individally adjusting the tweets and the mids I finally got it sounding how I think it should.

Heres the crossovers:

Mid-L-L -2 63hz 12db

Mid-L-R 0 63hz 12db

Mid-H-L -2 3.2khz 12db

Mid-H-R 0 3.2khz 12db

High-L -5 3.2khz 12db

High-R 0 3.2khz 12db

This is the best its sounded so far, although I have lost a bit of midbass since I pulled the other set. However, it sounds much cleaner and much more accurate. I also checked the phase for the tweets and mids individually.

The tweets definitely sound the best at 3.2khz with a 12db slope. Without a doubt, that will never change. The 24db slope was raping them. Once I played them alone at 12db they really started to shine. They didnt really like 2.5khz though.

Ahhhh that sounds better. Dont you think so?

LOL!
Essentially when running 'active' you are eliminating the passive crossover and using either an external processor or one incorporated into a deck to control all the crossover points, slopes, etc.

Way sweet! You get to independently adjust all the crossovers separately for the mids, tweets, woofer in a 3-way setup like mine and get the best possible sound in your designated vehicle.

DO IT!

edit- Easier way to look at it....controlling the processing before the amp rather than after.

i've never understood this part either... isnt that what the crossovers are for that come with your Comps....?? then besides what the x-overs filter out, you can adjust more with the amps EQ's

how would you bi-amp with active?? cause all I know is when bi-amping with passive, you control it with the x-overs

Right now I dont have my sub in but this is how my 9887 is setup:
Low-L 0 20hz 24db

Low-R 0 20hz 24db

Mid-L-L -1 50hz 24db

Mid-L-R 0 50hz 24db

Mid-H-L 0 2.5k 24db

Mid-H-R 0 3.2k 24db

High-L -5 8k 24db

High-R 0 10k 24db

Time alignment isnt dead on yet but left side is delayed about 22.8in iirc

Thats all off the top of my head but thats pretty much it.
interesting, think i might run my 9887 and Oz Elites active

2 amps

1 for your tweets, 1 for your mids

deck or amps would have to have the right xover settings tho
