Sooo......Active=FTW

can i go active with everything in my sig? im guessing i will either have to get an external crossover or the imprint system through alpine??? but other than a crossover, do i need anything other hardware?

Well my crossover adjustments, time correction and equalizer changed quite a bit during my driving today.

Ended up delaying the left side a little more and did a little adjustment to the second band in my eq.

The biggest change came from the adjustment of the crossovers.

This is how it looks now (once again still dont have a sub in):

Mid-L-L -1 50hz 24db

Mid-L-R 0 50hz 24db

Mid-H-L 0 3.2k 18db

Mid-H-R 0 3.2k 18db

High-L 0 12.5khz 24db

High-R 0 10khz 12db

Its wwaaaayyyy balanced and its getting scary how much better Im getting it to sound...learning along the way too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
dont' know what mids you have but i'm sure they won't handle 50hz too long.

also, your tweets xover and slopes look waaaay out of whack, but if you think it's balance.. then good for you. WTF is playing from 3.2khz to 10khz????????

active to me is just a bunch of hype
I ran some CDT HD active. Ran em with a Pioneer 960mp

Alpine amps all around.

Spent hours tunning.

Next car, I bought some CDT ES, ran em passive and gave em 200rms and they sound MUCH better
I'm sure it's because you didn't know WTF you were doing.

You're one of those that need to be told what to do to get shit right... which is what your passives are doing.

All my equipment is in my sig. The mids handle the power fine at 50hz. Ill probably bump them up once I get my sub in if the roll-off isnt to bad on the top end. The tweets is what I am having trouble with. Its hard to get them balanced in on the a-pillars.

If you have any useful suggestions I would be more than happen to hear them.....as this is....well.....my first time tinkering with an active setup. The tweets didnt sound too hot being crossed below 3.2kz, and seemed brightest around 10-12.5khz.

BTW tweets are next in line after I get my sub stage in.

sigs turned off, and my post was useful, you just gotta learn how to use it... just like your crossover.

bring your tweets back down to 3.2khz and attenuate them from your xover.

The tweets are playing from 3.2khz-10khz and 3.2-12 right now.

I realize it was useful too....but your just a dick //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

they way you posted your x-over points made it seem like you're highpassing your tweets @ 10 & 12khz..

can the 9887 even Low pass the Highs????

I understand its about imaging and MAJOR SQ.
But im saying the CDT set I had better SQ overall
......

I better leave this alone.

I always hear that active is the way to go... but going with a semi-budget setup, and having what I would say is the lack of knowledge to set up a proper active setup, would a decent set of comps running passive suffice?

I guess what I am asking, is if going active is the only way do get pretty decent sound from a set of comps?

Yeah the points go

Low

Mid-Low

Mid-How

High

Its a low pass, bandbass, and highpass. So the mids are going down to 50hz, up to 3.2khz, the tweets pick up from there to 10-12.5khz.

so your tweets aren't playing FROM 3.2khz like you stated.

so you have a huge range of frequencies not being played...
