Sooo......Active=FTW

How does one go 'active'? I never looked into it before... but I want to try to go active.
If you are 100% in love with that 6900, you'll need to get a 4 channel amp that can do it. Only one I know of is the 4 channel Sundown. I am sure there are more but that's the only one I know.

Ego Audio used an older series of cerwin vega to do it without any external processor. So only 2 amps that I know of claim to have crossovers that go that high. I ordered my 4ch sundown a while ago and will use that. Ill order the 2 channel when there's the option.

I heard a couple stereos that were ran active (just a couple) and theres no comparison to coaxial speakers. There isnt comparison for the dollar/performance with passive components that comes close for what I know.

i hope to go active sometime in the future..

LOL!
Essentially when running 'active' you are eliminating the passive crossover and using either an external processor or one incorporated into a deck to control all the crossover points, slopes, etc.

Way sweet! You get to independently adjust all the crossovers separately for the mids, tweets, woofer in a 3-way setup like mine and get the best possible sound in your designated vehicle.

DO IT!

edit- Easier way to look at it....controlling the processing before the amp rather than after.
wait so what if the deck has the HPF/LPF in the deck? that wouldnt be active right?

I don't think my deck supports active.

Nop, that just splits the signal so you can get your subwoofer signal. In an active set up, it splits the signal 3 ways (or 4)... lows, mids, and highs.

I'm not in love with it. Quite the contrary. I FINALLY got the broken Pico fuse problem fixed... that took about a pound of solder and 2 hours (Actually just about 10 minutes, but still)

I'm just broke ATM.

And if I read correctly, you can have an external processor instead of an amp or HU that can do it.

The most my amp has is a HP / LP filter for front and rear channels //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Then you can possibly use the crossovers on you amp (if they extend further than what for speakers are rated for) to officially make it active.

Say for example lpf/hpf @ 62hz from HU

lpf/hpf @ 3k from the amp for 2 way active using mids and tweeters.

No u can't. how will you stop the mids at 3k with only one crossover point?

IIRC, what that'll do is it'd make the signal have only frequencies above 3k. What about the signal from 62-3000? Where are you going to get that?

ha! I got Hertz HSK165's active. Thinkin of switching over too a alpine unit. I've got a Clarion dxz955mc. Kinda want to try somethin different but I love my touchscreen.

He's right. ^

Missing the middle part of the band though^

Its just way easier and sweeter having time alignment, crossovers, and eq right at your fingertips.
