Hmmm, my old deck was a Sony Mobile ES CA760, never had any problems with it for the 3 years it was in my car. It was my first HU but it sounded good and never let me down. That said I agree Sony produces a pile of crap for car audio, I do not like their subs and amps period. I think their decks are ok most likely because I haven't had any problems with that first one I owned, although I'd probably not buy another. Like everyone else has said you can find much better quality parts for the money.
I agree with ngsm13, definitely check out RE. I checked them out along with Image Dynamics, Elemental Designs, and Adire Audio. I ended up buying an ID8d2v3 from ID and 2 Adire Shiva's. BTW if you are still serious about those Sony's I'd look at their RMS ratings, because subs from any of the above will usually have a good RMS ratings (shivas are 650w RMS) and will definitely sound better than anything of Sony's that Circuit S**ty sells.
