What years were they popular? I was out of the scene around 2000. Between 95 and 2000 when I competed they weren't very popular. Sony that is.

This is the higher end Sony offered in the 90s mainly ..they had an even higher series called the XES ..but I don’t have any of those pieces ..

That deck is top shelf, I always wanted one. The only Sony heads better than that one are the XES P1 (with X1) and the XES-Z50. Those and the Pioneer ODR heads were so far ahead of their time (we're talking 1991), they were almost completely unknown by the masses. Probably because the masses couldn't afford them, myself included. This is also why I chuckle to myslef when people call these dinosaurs and say they don't compare to new head units. They're right, these were made far better. But no, it's gotta be bluetoof and mpfree. Couple images of those below.

Looks great. The "best" HU I owned was the P1R. Still have one actually.

Never messed with the Sony units.

I’ve had a few P1Rs ..I even had a cassette version once ..I think it was from Canada ..identical but cassette instead of cd
