I would like to get some bass in my room for my computer/movies and found this idea online. Would this sound good or better instead of building the traditional mdf enclosure?

I like how it's cheap and looks unique but I need to know if its just going to be a waste of time before I build.

I would like to make one for a Maw-12 and am going to find a tube shorter than the one in this picture (probably about 3 feet high).

They work excellent. There's an online sonosub calculator if you search. I built one with dual 15's a few years ago for my HT, kicked major ***.

Much easier than building a box and lighter if building a big enclosure. Search "Patrick Sun" as he has a few good tutorials on building one. Good luck...

as long as you don't run one sub with the port firing out the rear, they work fine. (only recommended for burps)
I have Premier 2000SPLs in tubes with the port rear and they pound and sound good as well. I was gonna make one for the BTL 18 but the tube is like 5 ft tall! Maybe later in a van or something...lol Build it, the design for Sonosub have the port rear. I gotta make one for my HT also Im gonna use a Dayton Audio 18.

Tubes are usually 2 inches more than sub diameter, 10 sub 12 tube, 12 sub 14 tube....Then choose accordingly as you go.

make sure you got some bolts around that thing..

is the tube reinforced? isnt the tube like cardboard?

These tubes are stronger than MDF. The even outward pressure on a cylinder is very strong!! No flexing ever! These things get up to 300lbs psi of pressure in them from wet cement. I used Fiberglass to help take a paint or bedliner but its not necessary. I was experimenting. If you seen the specs in choosing for cement you would see that subs are LIGHT duty for these.
