Something Crazy or I'm Delusional

So I went downstairs to get something to drink and I hear the dog (beagle) in the kitchen near the trash. So I yell at him and he hides near a chair and i picked up the garbage bag to put it on top of something so he can't get it and I notice the front door is 1/4 open. So I glance at the dog while I get ready to go back upstairs and I get to the steps and the dog is at the top of the steps. So I'm like if the dog is upstairs, then wtf was that downstairs. I'm probably yelling at a ****ing raccoon or opposum (that possibly came in the house when the door was cracked open) thinking it's the dog. So I slowly make my way down the stairs with the dog and start telling the dog "Get it" I hear noises in the kitchen, and I'm trying to find a light to turn on so I can see. Since the light switch is over near the front door, I can't get to it because the "animal" is in between me and the light switch. So I turn on the fan light which sucks, it only lights up a small portion of the living room. Then my stupid brother walks in from outside. Now this is around 2:00 am. So I'm not sure if there's an animal in the house or if the dog just happened to run upstairs after I yelled at it and I didn't notice. But I could have sworn it stayed where it was, and if that's the case, it was some animal and I wasn't paying attention cuz I was half asleep. Hopefully, whatever it is, it isn't hiding in my room ready to attack when I go to sleep.
