Prodigy,
Go back and reread what he wrote. He is trying to create a parallel between the discrimination and segragation of blacks and his inability to legally smoke dope which absolutely does not exist. Read the quote in my sig; he says they are the SAME THING and that the law is UNJUST. His inability to smoke dope legally is NOTHING like civil rights issues, they don't even belong is the same paragraph together. Discrimination and segregation of colored people was a moral, ethical and constitutional issue......the legalization of pot is a societal values issue. If he wants to try to use alcohol and prohibition in his arguements for the legalization of pot, then more power to him......but to try to relate it somehow to civil rights is just absurd and foolish, and quite degrading to those who lived through and suffered during the civil rights era.
Geez....
Prodigy was right - I'm not saying its exactly the same thing... I'm saying its an unjust law, as was all that jim crow BS.... you said yourself....
I never said it was wrong
so if its not wrong, why the hell is it illegal?
Or heck, maybe next you'll explain how your not being allowed to smoke dope legally is just like the Holocaust?
Its not - the holocaust wasn't a a law in the US... and it really didn't have much to do with US laws. There is no parralel... although the holocaust was a terrible event, its not related to the point I'm making...
Are you assaulted on the street because you like to smoke dope?
I could be, by a crazy anti-drug moron.... but you are definitely assaulting me on this forum... people who smoke pot ARE alienated and discriminated upon.. and you cant do it in any public place. But you can booze it up in a bar then drive home if you want... alchohol makes you sick and can kill you... weed only makes you sick if you take a SERIOUS hit of the good stuff... but its not gonna kill you.
Is your life being hampered in some way because you can't walk down the street smokin' a joint?
What if I said yes? What if I feel it is restricting my life because I can't openly smoke marijuana? The speed limit restricts you... but *everyone* speeds... (put that in your sig for being "stupid"...) speeding is socially acceptable, but smoking pot isn't... you probably won't see the correlation, so whats the point.
Btw, i drew parallels with jim crow because I happen to be mixed - my grandparents and all before that had to deal with that sort of BS. They would get chased home from school with rocks being thrown at em... name calling, couldn't go certain places... It wasn't quite as bad becuase most of the BS i've heard happening came from my grandmother, who always lived in chicago. My great grandma I never heard from - but she was from the south... I'm sure she got it much worse.
Anyway, this is what came to my mind when trying to think of a law that was obviosly total BS and was fixed later on. Weed being illegal is a stupid law, even you yourself said its not wrong. I probably should have drawn parallels with prohibition - that would have been more obvious.
Last time I respond to this type of thread, opinions have no place here I spose...
oops, almost forgot to add that I haven't smoked in quite some time. Once a few months ago, and.... I don't remember before that. If it was legal I probably wouldn't smoke more... I also don't drink much, don't particularly like drinking.
As white people fought for civil rights - I'm fighting for legalizing marijuana! haha I couldn't help it... have some fun with that one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
