i have read before, with various amps in tests, etc. and often time, i will read where, lets say amp a did 1500 watts and did 145 spl, but amp b did only 1400 watts but produced 146 spl. i have seen several instances where an amp with a lower wattage output will produce an equal or higher spl with a lower wattage output, how is this possible?

upon researching various amps, i have seen this several times, just wondering why this would be so

The amp is only a tiny part of the SPL equation. In a direct A/B comparison with the same subs, enclosure and car, more power is going to be louder (to a point.)
