Some songs make my woofer smoke, some dont...Whats the deal?

(And we all know that the lower the frequency' date=' the more the cone will move out of the gap. And the more the coil moves out of the gap, the more the reactive impeadance drops. The more the reactive impeadance drops, the more power the coil is seeing.)[/quote']
The lower the frequency, the more the cone will move out of the gap? I only see this happening in ported systems when moving below tuning. In a sealed system, the cone simply moves slower for lower notes, not more.

All drivers move further below tuning because the amount of excursion required below tuning is substantially higher the lower you go below tuning compared to that of a sealed box (same frequencies, ported vs. sealed). In a ported enclosure it is much easier to get a driver to move further when you play frequencies below tuning. (model up any driver in Boxplot or WinISD in a sealed enclosure and a vented enclosure and take a look at the cone excursion graphs to get a good idea about cone excursion for ported and sealed alignments)

But keep in mind that we do NOT cover burnt coils / blown drivers. If you smell anything at all, turn it down immediately. If not you might have just obtained a big paperweight.
