Good Lord' date=' talk about total guesses....
Ok your subs will ONLY stink when you pass a lot of power through the coils. This smell is NOT the voice coil burning, but rather it is the excess VC glue burning off. It is a sign that you are thermally stressing the coil and that you need to chill for a while.
The reason some songs make your sub stink and others not; there are a multitude of reasons. Some songs may be recorded inherently louder than others. Some songs are going to have their bass notes oriented lower in frequency than others. (And we all know that the lower the frequency, the more the cone will move out of the gap. And the more the coil moves out of the gap, the more the reactive impeadance drops. The more the reactive impeadance drops, the more power the coil is seeing.)
this has absolutely NOTHING to do with your SSF or any filter for that matter. It is PURELY how much power the coil is seeing....
You can also make your subs stink to holy hell, and if you are very lucky not harm them at all. I did with my 9915s for months on end. However the effects of making 'em stink IS cumulative, so it WILL catch up with you later on down the road.....[/quote']
Thanks a lot man
