other then forgetting to zip tie the 0 gauge to a near by object and it getting caught/chopped up by the alternator belt....i never had a problem!

I had a similar problem !! Wire got caught under the manifold and melted. Forgot to ziptie it to other wires away from the manifold. I caught it in time though before i had bigger problems.

 
I have seen 0 ga ring terminals too large for the stock alt stud work their way loose and short out on the case/block and arc on the stud, also OG has been around since the 70's and also have had and still have great success in the lanes. A lot of guys that I talk to run OG alts and I have ran them myself never had a personal complaint with them.
