I just traded off a Solo X 12" to a member here, when I got the sub and pulled the spair off, I noticed that the coil was smelly.
I called the fellow I traded with and asked him about the coil smelling, he informed me that it was the excess glue that had burned off.
I took him at his word and went ahead with the trade, the coil looked fine visibly and it read fine on my DMM.
I did not have any amp to wire the sub to so I couldnt test it, a short while after that, I posted it for trade and traded it off to the gentelman who has it now.
What I am wondering is, if the coil smells when you pull the spair off, what will happen if power is put to it?
I am thinking its going to stink up his car and may eventually fail, but I am no coil expert, I have stuck up my share of coils and blown a few subs back in my teen years, but I don't know what that coil will do if he puts 2500 rms to it.
Like I said, the original owner informed me that the sub was kosher, but the guy I traded with is concerned, so I find myself concerned as well, what say you guys?
