SOFT BASS? Part II

Ok sorry if I was confusing in my last post....

My current sub: 10" Diamond Audio D3 in a .75 Sealed Enclosure

My problem: Bass is too raspy and hard... most people I know like this effect of bass that just hits you in the ribs, I don't, I like the kind of bass that is softer, musical and that also will induce much less vibrations to the car...

Normal Popular bass (the kind of people like) will sound hard and probably more precise with some big thump in it, and when you listen to it closely it actually has some raspiness in to the sound that is the sub moving back and forward quickly.

The Bass that I am looking forhas to sound more like my 2.1 Altec Lansing setup that I am listening right now, the bass might sound a little less precise but it actually sounds nice and "flows" not "thumps" with the music.

Is there maybe another enclousure that I need to have the sound of bass that I need? maybe a smaller driver, a bazooka ( I kind of like the sound of those)....

Let me know

THanx!

The only setup I've seen that is "soft" and kinda easy bass is the ghetto setup I have in my car ... rca comming to a home reciever with a home sub with it. ran by a power converter.lol if you want soft bass you might wanna tryt a bigger enclosure and turn your gains down

Ok but can you please be a little bit more specific... what will polyfill do, what is it and what will it do? English is not my primary lenguage and I type like crap so if you could be more specific that would be grrreat!

polyfill is to the best that I can describe it the stuff you would put in a normal pillow not a feathered pillow. Polyfill will make the sub think that it is in a bigger box.

Guys!!! Specific pleaseee!
What is polyfill, How does it work?

How much larger does the enclousore has to be?
Build a 1 cu ft box , and add polyfill until the box is approx 1/3 full .... This will smooth out your bass , but you will lose definition.

basically it will add the essance of adding volume to the enclosure without actually building a new box. it cuts down on the transient response (ie: tightness of bass) and making it sound smoother, and as blue said, less defined.

dont build a new box until you played with some plyfill with your current box.

polyfill looks like this

its basically a synthetic cotton-like substance that you can buy at arts\crafts stores... usually used to stuff stuffed animals and crap like that.

First off, go with 1 cu ft like blue said... 1.25 will be too big, thats my bad.

Second, if after you have the bigger box and it sounds too sloppy for your tastes, you can always put blocks of wood inside until you get the sound you desire. If it still sounds too hard/raspy, put the polyfill in and see if that helps. You can also try lowering the lowpass a tad.

If all these things still don't smoothen out your bass, that sub is not what you are looking for. It is worth a shot though.
