so whats the deal with Fs?

It really depends on the enclosure, the amount of power the sub can take, and the suspension of the sub. If you're one of the guys running 5,000rms daily to a BTL, you're going to need to jack up the SSF quite a bit because you're going to be going through tinsels like a mofo.
In my system, my SSF is pretty **** low. Right now my subs arent even seeing their RMS, and in the bandpass, their excursion is very controlled. I can play a 10hz note full tilt with no SSF and nothing happens, except a tornado.

Really just depends...
^^^I am tuned(24hz) below fs(28hz) and have my ssf as low as it goes(15hz) but I can play a 15hz tone with plenty of control. and I am running almost 2x rated rms.

SSF is a high pass filter. A SSF at 15Hz, blocks frequencies below 15hz from being reproduced. Of course- at the slope of the filter in question.

No, that is wrong.

Do you know what Sub-Sonic means?

We really need to stop parroting ideas around when we don't understand them.

thats why im going to school and asking questions on ca.com, i want to know this stuff so i can start designing boxes, so how does fs relate to designing a box then?

ok so,

Fs free air resonance of speaker, just a number you use when designing an enclosure

Fb the tuning you choose for the enclosure

and F3 is -3db below peak

ok, ok, so im getting fs confused with Fb, fs is just another parameter to be taken into account when designing a box, but Fb the tuning of the box is what important, and playing below Fb could damage the speaker because it acts like the port isnt even there and plays free air

right?

Just FYI - If a sub has an Fs of 30hz, that means the sub will move most easily at 30hz. Plain and simple, that's all it means.

I'm just dying for someone to tell me what a Sub-Sonic Filter does, and why it would be useful on an amplifier, and which amplifiers use one.
It's used to block out frequencies from being played that us humans cannot hear. Usually below 20hz. And frequencies that can potentially damage the sub/subs.
