So, we just had a brownout...

they rent the equipment, they pay for the bandwidth, if you are using bandwidth you are stealing it from them, simple as that

good luck on not getting caught

I'm not talking about the mbps rating, I'm talking about what Comcast deems "heavy users" people who use lots of bandwidth that hit the cap and have their service turned off. Plus lets not even get into Comcast's packet and bandwidth filtering.

What you read on your satirical blogs aren't always true. Comcast does do any of that. Now Verizon on the other hand...

if comcast wants you monitor nodes when not at work why dont they give you free service so you dont have to steal your neighbors?
I'm not stealing from my neighbors. I don't use their service to surf the net. I do have my own service for that. However, I am required to see individual configurations on the node. I have to monitor noise levels coming from each modem in my network. That is what I was on their network for.

if you would have made that clear in the OP then bambi wouldn't have went off

I need sleep, good night you clueless thief.
Haha, this guy calls me clueless yet didn't even bother to read his lease. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Again I can't be a thief if I'm the owner.

because you just made clear what you were doing
did you purposely post a vague OP to bait people into thinking you were stealing your neighbors signal? probably:(
I didn't feel the need to post every detail of my job at the time.

Merely telling me that I need to research isnt going to make your statement right. Read any lease and tell me where you see that the landlord is going to ask you permission to enter your property. If they state it at all it would read "We reserve the right to enter and/or inspect any property on our premises". Comcast has to abide by these rights too. That's why they limit certain types of installs on rented properties. You really need to read more.
you dont have to read the lease, its your house. you live their. i do belive you need a bit of reading sir.

he was correct on the rental thing, a landlord does need to inform you they will be entering your rental before they do so
Thanks for that.

I never said that I was surfing the net using my neighbors bandwidth, but going back and reading it, I could see how the posts were a bit vague. Just to make it clear, I use a program called Auspice that can log onto any modem connected to our network. Auspice runs on a VPN and is kind of slow. Whenever I can I try to log on directly so that I can view the modem logs much quicker through wi-fi. It uses no bandwidth as I am not on the internet when I do this. All I am doing is viewing the modem logs. If I see anything out of the ordinary, I have to inform Our Base 4 Technicians to check out the faulty node. Its a form of quality control. Think of it this way, if I use Auspice right now and reset my neighbors modem, I can get their system back up and running (which is currently down) before they even notice it.

Read the post above yours. And its not your house. You are LEASING. Why do you think that unless its in the lease, most rental properties won't even let you paint your walls? Please people read!

1. Why make this thread? Seriously, who cares.

2. Are you trying to say you are the owner of Comcast? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

3. I would be mighty pissed off if I found out my neighbor was logging onto my network with out me knowing.

4. Just curious if this is part of your job? For example has your boss told you "when you are at home log onto your neighbor's network and check out some node settings".

Also, you BB card isn't going to be nearly as fast as a connection to a Cable Modem. So I can see why you want to steal your neighbor's internet.

accually both of you are right rental laws are different in ALL 50 states so it depens on where you live in ny the landlord can enter at anytime

1. Does my landlord have the right to enter my apartment whenever he or she

wants?

It depends on the state. In all states, a landlord or manager may enter

rented premises while the tenant is living there without advance notice in

the case of emergency, such as a fire or serious water leak. And, of

course, a landlord may enter when a tenant gives permission. Beyond that,

laws in many states guarantee tenants reasonable privacy rights against

landlord intrusions.
