This is my first time ever putting a system together. I'm getting all my info off of youtube yahoo answers and google lol. I want to do this properly and would loveee advice.

I'd say my budget is $500?

I'm sure i want this sub... and I'm only looking to get one 12"

I'm lost on the amp.. I know the rms of the speaker is 500 watts.. so i should look for an amp thats rms is 500 watts? Am i just looking for a mono block?

You're only going to be able to run that sub at either 8 or 2 ohms so you're going to want a amp that does 500 watts at 2 ohms or close to that

For your application, look for a mono amp that will do 500 at 2 ohms.

So.. is the higher the ohm the better SQ? Because there is a E12 D2 which is a 2 ohm version of this speaker. I figured why not go the extra $10 and get the 4 ohm. But if its going to sound the same, I'd rather keep my $10

You'll spend a good bit more on an amp that does 500 at 2Ω and you wouldn't be able to tell any difference in sound quality. And since you're running small power there is no reason to worry about the electrical load 1Ω would create so, I would go with a D2 sub.

That sub will take more than rated power with no problem so look for an amp that does between 5-800 watts at 1Ω and you'll be good. There are still a few Audio Technix AT400.1s on ebay and those amps do ~700 watts at 1Ω.

As for the box, I would never use a sealed one but that's preference. With a properly built custom ported box you will get a LOT more performance from the sub in both the sound pressure and sound quality areas so that's what I recommend.
