and all I can say is not only is this one of the nicest looking decks (IMO), but my ALTERNATOR WHINE IS GONE!!! (after a ****ing year of living with it)

I went from a P960-MP (the dual face version of last years popular P860MP) and lo and behold, I have ZERO alternator whine, ZERO noise in my system. I cannot believe that it fixed the problem.

It leads me to wonder though, because the person who bought my P960 has installed it and said it sounds great (no mention of noise). I wonder why??

I am still using the same wire harness from my old old P840 (came out in 2003?) but the pin connection fits and the pin-out looks the same. I always thought that maybe because I used the 840 harness on the 960 model, that it caused problems, but I have read and heard otherwise.

The noise on the old radio was so bad. Even with the ignition in ACC I could "hear" noise. Like when I loaded a CD, I could hear little "beeps" and a scratching noise that sounded like the loading of the CD. I guess it was bad RCA grounds on the head unit afterall?

Again, I don't see why the other guy isn't having problems with the same P960. Oh well, I Guess I can't complain.

All in all, I love the P880PRS even more now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

The person that installed your 960 may not have listened to it with the car running but rather only with the key turned to the accessory position allowing him to use the stereo.

Without the car running there would be no alternator whine.

Or, on the other hand, he may have been too fvckin' lazy to troubleshoot the problem and since everything was "working" outside of the whine he simply told you it sounded great and sent it out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Yea this is my guess too. Another guess I have is that he has a non-amplified system, or a very low watt amp. I say this becuase I know when I upgraded my amp, the whine went from kind of low to VERY Loud.

And pics are to come tonight //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

a lot of the older pioneer models had ground loop issues. i know a lot of people who had to ground the RCA's and stuff to get rid if noise. supposed to be fixed with the newer units.

i've had the 880 for a couple months now and love it.

whats the best price on an 880 on the net today? link please
best price is pretty much ebay. I couldn't find an online store. I payed $325 shipped from a guy in Houston, so even thought it was "Ground" it got to my house the next day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

But many people are even offering it at ~$300 shipped, so that's about the cheapest price I know of without buying used through a local person on a forum or whatever.
