So my idiot brother wants me to build him a box

Brother still not home from work. So unsure of the plan

I did end up buying myself a new jigsaw. the difference between the two is night and day.

Bought the Black and Decker Firestorm with laser

For shits and giggles I also bought a circle cutting attachment for my dremel. it was on clearance at walmart for $3. I couldnt find this attachment anywhere else(lowes/homedepot)

This is now doable for me with this jigsaw. It's orbital action rocks. Now I did see a Skil jigsaw for 10 dollars cheaper with light AND laser, But it had one major flaw. No real blade support during scrolling. The firestorm has a bladegaurd/support that moves WITH the blade. the Skil didn't. I did like how the Skil felt in my hands though. In any case I'm happy with my purchase. The one without the laser felt cheaper compared to the one with the laser. Both are fairly bulky but the plastic on the $50 dollar one sucked. I also got a $20 mail in rebate for the firestorm. so it ends up cheaper if my rebate ever comes in.

I looked at the cheap routers(Sub 60) And didn't like what I saw/felt.

The Skil felt like a toy. both the plunge and fixed versions. The $100 hitachi was nice but no plunge. Homedepot's Ryobi was it's packaging so I couldnt handle it. Firestorm also sells a router but it wasent on display. Then of course there was Mikata, Milwukee and Dewalt, All out of my retail pricerange.

I also saw a circle attachment for routers there. $23. Cheaper than a jasper jig. Esp since I wont have to pay $9 shipping.

We'll see what happens

Brother just said "Mtx sucks". According to him he once owned some mtx subs and said they were shit. This from the guy that wants 4 6x9's in the back of his truck on a wall. And tweeters on the subbox.

Im going to jack up the price and tell him I need a good $200 worth of tools to build this shit. Not including additional cost of carpet and such

Glad to see that you picked up a new jigsaw. The way you described your old one made it sound dangerous to use. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Cutting circles should be a breeze now, even without a router. Just like this beauty:

forget the jigsaw...
watch ebay for a couple days and grab a high quality used router for 50 bucks shipped... you can make a circle jig with a regular *** piece of wood and... theres your box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

personally, i'd decide on a height for the box, build the bottom with fiberglass, cut a piece of wood to fit the contour of the bottom of the box across the front (think template + router or jigsaw + sanding), and another for the back, then make sides and attach a flat top piece...

i'm also a fan of shimming the seats for extra mounting depth...
Thats exactly how it should be done, I did that in my buddies 95 Silverado and it turned out great, he ran two 10" RF's. We had enough room to even port them if he wanted to.

If you end up not wanting to build one, and go prefab, consider Probox @ Proboxrocks.com . they are coated in material that looks like bedliner, but isnt as strong, but still very durable.
