So, My girlfriend wants me to go to the gym with her

All you need is free weights, a bar, bench, and squat rack. You don't need any machines.
If you have access to a gym that has free weights you should be good to go, it would only take 3 non consecutive days (mon/wed/fri) at no more than an hour a session of your time.

A lot of people get caught up in the hype that you need to train 5+ days a week, when such is not true.
I looked...the workout facility has none of those things required.

and i like the idea of losing weight/gaining muscle etc. But im not into all the muscle sauce/juice shit and all that. Were both a little overweight and lazy as hell also id like to add. Im looking at maybe like 50-60$ a month to go do it so id like to know what all i need to do to actually make it work. Id like to lose my man tits and maybe make my arms a little bigger and thats it. I also have back pains alot so im told i can work out my back muscles to help with that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Does anyone else here workout at all? Im really just wondering about what kinda work its gonna take to get what i want, and any tips you guys have. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Look man it takes time to do what you want. You are going to have to go prolly about 3 times a month. I played football for a while and it is not easy but really anyone can do it. Just make sure you get in many reps. To get bigger the trick is find your max weight on the bench and do it tell you can once you have finshed that take most of the weight off till you can do it pretty easy. Then you do what we can a burnout do 50 reps of the light weight then 25 of a lil heavier then 15 heavier then 5 of you max again. Your arms will turn to jello but its good means you have built some muscle. I do this about 3 tims a week. to lose the man tits your need to watch what you eat but its not the main thing Run and drink water I lose a few inches and 25 pounds in 2 weeks just by running and drinking water. Look main point is there is not a quick way to get in shape you will have t go through hell before you will get fit. You will notice that as you go your max will go up and you will feel really good afterwards

Good luck man

Just got done last week with my first 9- days of P90x. Like mentioned before, diet is very important. I'm 18, so I tried to do as well as I could following the diet plan, but of course there were some slip ups. I lost 14 lbs, and gained a lot of muscle. Started out being able to do 1 or 2 good pull ups, now I can rep 10. Went from 18% Body fat to 11.5%. I had a big of chub, now I can feel and sometimes see a six pack. I will continue doing the AB ripper X routine every other day, and eating healthy until the summer. Then I plan on doing Power 90 X.

Best part is, if you have space in your house, all I needed was 15, 25, 35, and a 50lb dumbbell. You can find torrents of the program, and if you stick to it I guarantee you will love the results.

I'm currently studying on being a personal trainer I'd love to get some practice on you. I'm also a nut about this kind of stuff.

What are your goals?

What is your job/lifestyle?

How bad do you want this on a scale 1-10?

Injuries?

Weight loss and lose your *****. That is what I read. You are lazy, you say?

The second post in response told you a basic premise that I would adjust slightly based on my more than 25 years of training in gyms and doing just about every method used by trainers, power lifters and body builders:

Weight loss = 80% eating habits/food eaten + 20% exercise.

Lots of comments around these concepts, but if you are incapable of grasping and actually doing this concept, you are lost in the woods. This requires making permanent, long term lifestyle changes. If you are not ready to make a commitment to do that, then do not expect long term, satisfying results from whatever you do by "going to the gym" with or without your GF.

Second comment I would make is that more people "want" to lose weight to "look better", but they lack the constitution to actually achieve the goal, than there are people who actually succeed long term (more than 2 years maintaining their target weight and shape). If you are not willing to do whatever it takes, which you stated you are not (by your comment that you apparently don't like things like protein shakes or other nutritional specialty items), then certainly making a goal of losing weight in a permanent sense and changing your lifestyle to keep the weight off is probably not something you can achieve.

First thing you need to do is have someone with good skinfold calipers take the proper measurements to calculate your percentage of body fat. That is a starting point for making a plan. You also have to take the time to figure out what your base caloric intake is for maintaining your current weight. That takes a little time and a lot of monitoring on your part. Without that you cannot extrapolate a plan to lose body fat by modifying your diet, and you cannot accurately forecast how much time it may take to reach certain goals.

Lastly, it is surely a sign that you are not serious about losing weight if you are posting this cry for help on a car audio web site. There are plenty of health and fitness web based forums you can join to get real help, and there are on line trainers who will assist you in weight loss on the web for probably a fee you can afford. Think about that. In the end it comes down to first knowing accurately what you need to do and then setting reasonable short term goals to reach, which when added up may get you where you want to go. A gym membership is only worth it if you use it regularly. Make a real honest assessment of your desire and expectation that you will do that.

You people on here bash and bash when someone is just asking a simple question and for advice. And as for him posting this on a CA website.. i mean hell, there is threads about Burger King food and Credit cards. I mean wtf:confused: this is no different. But anyways, for all of you giving sincere advice thanks, for the other fegs making 5th grade jokes and throwing their nose in the air, i hope you learn you are not better then everyone and snobbing about in a Forum is not as cool as you think it is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

So you like p90x?

I want to try it. I dont need to lose any weight, just gain muscle. Ive always been skinny.

When I first started working out. I was probably 155-160. Im currently 170. Im 6'4 btw.

Getting a gym membership was one of the best moves in life ever I think.

Overall I much stronger. Like, when I first started benching I could only do 65lbs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I now max out at 180lbs.

First leg press was 135lbs max, now Im at 520lbs max.

Get a gym membership OP, will be one of the best decisions you will make. It was life changing for me.

Yea I loved P90x. Really got me back on the right track with diet n exercise. Since I downloaded it, all It cost me was about $100 in dumbbells, an hour a day, and some hard work. The beachbody.com website is some good motivation as well.

As much as I liked the program, I'm not sure that you would benefit as much as some. It is in a way a fat reducer and muscle builder. You may get more out of power90x.

Going to the gym is the best thing I ever started doing. Started in June last year and still maintaining a 4-day a week workout routine. Life has never been better..
