So I'm riding...

So I don't understand why the the amps aren't cutting on. Theyre getting voltage on the power, grounds, and remote. Im thinking the head unit blew because for the brief time the smoke came in, it was from / around the vents. But like I said; it still cuts on and the music still shows as playing
Grounded an RCA and burnt your outputs maybe? Test the RCAs for AC voltage at the amp inputs.

probably the HU brah. if it was coming from the vents, I don't see how it could be anything else.
That's what I'm thinking too cuz that's the only place the smell comes from when I cut the heat on. No smell in the trunk or under the hood.

I'm bout to go out on my lunch break and test a few spots out with the dmm and see what readings I got. I Appreciate the suggestions too fellas

play a test tone through your HU and turn it up a lot....then test your RCA outputs with your DMM set to AC voltage. If you can, measure the frequency as well and see if it lines up with the test tone.

also, go ahead and check your RCA's for DC offset....why not while you're at it.

Its probably your head unit from what you described.

Go to Radioshack or any place that carries RCA cables. Get a 1/8" headphone to RCA splitter cable. Plug the cable into each one of the amps to test them. Plug an mp3 player/phone/cdplayer into the cable and see if you get sound. Of course you still have to jump the remote wire on the amp you are testing to make it turn on.

Wires are outside of the car and have grommets where they come into the trunk. Plus I doubt smoke would've came through the vents if that was where the problem was

Amps see a constant 13v + and are fused. I highly doubt I could've blown the 4 amps in my sig by not doing anything out of the ordinary.

I'm just now leaving work so I'm gonna try jumping them and connecting to and iPod and see what happens

Idk to me personally it sounds like something in your vehicle fried behind the dash. If your HU works properly and your amps arent fried than might as well strip everything out and sell the car. I had a short behind my dash somewhere in my first car, looked for it for 2 hrs a day for a week in my auto class, with a wiring schematic from All Data. Never found it. Glad I totaled that ******* car.

May have blow n the rcas on the deck try plugng something else in the amp directly. I use a wire from my rcas to my phone and tone the amp other than that maybe a wire came lose and touched something in the dash. Normally a radio will go into protect and shut off the outputs on the deck .
