so i ran into my first snag

That depends on current draw, length of wire run and efficiency of the amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
do you think its gonna kill my wattage? the amp is rated at 1790@ 1 ohm, and the length of the 4 AWG wire will only be like...6 inches if that

Like said above you will be just fine. The amp only has 4 gauge inputs and that is a pretty short run (under a foot) you should have no problems.

As suggested above, length of wire affects this discussion. Wire does have a capacity, based on AWG, but what's being discussed here is voltage drop. Consulting a wire sizing chart will show you that length is part of the equation. The longer the wire run length, the more resistance that will be added to the circuit. This is why your long run of wire back to the rear mounted second battery should be something like 1/0, while your short run of wire from the rear batt to the rear amplifier can be 4awg.
