I've owned about 4-5 subwoofer amps, even when the gain is turned all the way up, my amps wont clip?

and i feel like its not producing full power either..i've been checking my voltage and it stays in the high 13's even when at full tilt, and this is with no big 3 done.

i have a MTX 1501d run with kicker 1/0 and a kicker 350.4 run with 6guage..

i even tried two DMM's because i thought it was a error, and it wasn't..i checked front and back wiring and it was pretty consistent.

the hell is going on?

As far as I know you can't tell if it's clipping with a DMM, you need an O-scope or good ears for that.

Make sure the sub out on your HU is all the way up, and look up the line out voltage your HU is spec'ed for.

I was trying to see how high i can go with the gain..

my HU is a x100 wich only have 2v preouts..i was checking the voltage on it and it says around .002 on the rca's at the amp..on both my sub and front stage..

so im assuming thats the problem?

so why exactly do you want your amps to clip? obviously an amp with a clip light would help?

i guess so that you know where to tune it and to get the most power out of it...

so if it isn't clipping, and obv. you care not about distortion, crank that thing up and like it, or get a bigger set up...

I just want to know why none of my older amps nor my new ones obviously clip even when the gain is set all the way up, maybe there is a problem somewhere.

and now that its mentioned i think the pre-outs voltage is wayyy to low which is why i was asking if getting a line driver would help.
