So I finished my first large speaker box, a 3.2 cubic foot sub box. While I can say that the box will work, it deff won't do what I designed it to do. I made so many mistakes, was impatient, and did such a bad job designing the box at the beginning that I had to seal up the port hole because the inside flare hits the plate amp! I went from a ported box to a sealed one, with a qtc of .541, all because I the amp 3 inches too far to the right.......... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

O well, live and learn. It only cost me 20 dollars to buy the wood and have it cut (since I don't have a table saw //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif ). I'm going out to buy another MDF sheet as soon as I get back from my college visit. Hurray for persistance.

Who else made huge mistakes when taking their first DIY steps?

everybody makes mistakes here and there and it's usually because of measuring. you have to measure and plan it all out before actually putting it together.

i've only made a couple of little mistakes, nothing a little sanding couldn't fix though.

Everyone makes mistakes at some point and time. My first attempt many moons ago was made of 1/4" plywood. Man was it pretty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif We thought it was cool to watch it breathe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

RAMOS???? MISTAKES???? So not ur charachter!!

My first vented box was a beast... I found it like a year later in my friend's garage and we both started dying laughing at how horrible it was. I would never put that thing in my car now... but it was bangin' when we first built it.

I built my first box 5 years after I first started in car audio. You would think I knew better, but clearly this was not the case. I had some leftover pressboard, so I decided to make a box for a pair of MTX Blue Thunder 10's I wasn't using. When I finished, I still wasn't using them.....

I'm not sure what was worse: the randomly crooked cuts we made using a Skil saw, the WHITE caulk that eventually covered the majority of the joints, sides, and builder's exposed skin, or the elliptical hole I cut to accomodate the round speakers.

After busting my hump for the better part of 2 hours, it was time to slap the speakers in, finish the rest of beer #6, and see what I hath wrought. On the LAST screw securing the second speaker, my hand slipped and I neatly inserted my screwdriver completely through the cone of the driver. Whoops!

Last time I saw it, the box was still empty and had been adopted by several families of birds as it slowly decayed in the loft of our barn.
