So I bought a JVC KD-ADV38

and sold my Panasonic foldout. Not sure of the model, I think it was a 7001. On paper I like the combination of video, built in bluetooth, and the satellite radio capability. So I called JVC and got the XM direct and adapter number to order from Audiovox/Terk. Got those parts, and hooked them up and it says searching for signal. Told the local retail store the tuner and adapter were faulty, so they gave me a new one. Hooked it up, and still searching for signal came up. So I go to Audiovox/Terk's website and make sure I had the right part numbers, and I emailed JVC tech support. Come to find out this radio, and the KD-NX5000 navigation unit do not have an XM direct feature. JVC's reply was "no direct sat radio unit is able. You could use the AUX in for a portable Sat Radio (which would sound like crap". So JVC is advertising this radio as SAT radio ready which is a big point for me since I travel for work every week, and now I can't get XM direct satellite. I've sold my Panasonic unit already, and can only return the satellite tuner and adapter for store credits. I'm pretty angry, and really wish I wouldn't have given JVC a chance. I thought JVC wouldn't really on backwards compatibility. I've emailed them and asked them if they will pay for these satellite pieces that are of no worth to me. So I'm kind of stuck with this radio now.

Here is the latest reply.

Nothing as of yet. Japan (the engineers) will now be very meticulous regarding this issue. They will check, recheck, and triple check the interfaces to find who is at fault, and then to fix the issue. We are now going to recheck ALL product for 07, and will re check all products for the upcoming 08 line

Doesn't this seem like something they should have checked and rechecked before releasing the 2007 product line?

Is anyone even reading this, and does anyone fell my pain?

This has been a nightmare dealing with JVC. Here is the final email I sent. I love how they tried to pass the buck and blame Audivox, when the only company saying it's sat compatible is JVC. Audiovox says the unit isn't compatible. I have over $ 800.00 tied up in the radio, the XM tuner and adaptor, and the XM subscription that is of no use to me. I drive for work everyday, and my truck doesn't have a radio. I'm and any other JVC consumer is suffering because JVC didn't do their homework. You guys might not care, but I thought I'd post this stuff anyways.

I guess the plan is just to ignore me. It shouldn't take three tries to get some type of answer. The ignore the problem and will go away tactic is not going to work. I've gotten read receipts on every one of the emails I've sent. I believe I requested an answer by yesterday (10/15). Please forward the tracking number TODAY for my new radio, or my old radio tuner and adaptor, or my refund. I do plan on spreading these emails to my local retailers and Car Audio/Custom Car boards I frequent, so they can understand how JVC's customer service works. Needless to say I'm not a JVC fan any longer.

Third Attempt

Please let me know. If I can't get some type of answer today, I'd prefer that you return the radio and XM tuner & adaptor. And I'll take up my problems with Consumer Affairs and the Better Business Bureau. This is getting pretty ridiculous.

I can tell you the local stores don't have anymore Tuners, and were told that Terk will not have any in the near future. Now if this is the case with you guys, and nobody can give me a timetable I'd rather you guys just give me the money and I'll move on to another brand. This seems to be going nowhere fast. Everytime I email you someone is on vacation, or your waiting on parts. We aren't anywhere further than where we were when I sent the radio back. I don't know if you like to ride around without a radio, but it's pretty boring. If you can't point me in the right direction, who do I need to talk to.

That might be your problem, but again Audiovox/TERK are not advertising

compatibility. JVC is. The product is not compatible, your engineers have

confirmed and you have conveyed that to me. That is in fact a JVC problem

since it's the 9th month of 2007 and the only people advertising it is JVC.

Now what is JVC going to do to fix this since the product is not as

advertised. If it's SAT radio radio per JVC then send me one that works.

Because the 4 I've tried do not, and I can't return the one I have.

Here is one of the problems. XM never updated their list. This list is of

all 06 products and no information regarding 07. That is neither here nor

there. Again, our units are compatible with XM and SIRIUS and the problem we

have experienced is on the end of Audiovox.
