Snail Shells

Not much research to be done. If they were so good, why isn't everyone using them? Type in SnailShell all over ever forum on the web, and you'll find pretty much all the info you need to know. This is a picture I got of one from Termpro about a year-and-a-half ago.

Many people have commented that they don't see a $400 difference between one of those snail shell enclosures and a properly designed ported enclosure.

I highly doubt you'll fit a snailshell in the back of your S10, unless you do a cut through. My friend bought a SS box loaded with a 12" Brahma from P4S and had a Rockford BD1500 or something running to it, and well, let me tell you that this thing amazed me. Not only does this thing hit hard to your whole body, but it is so very clean. He has it in an RSX, so maybe he has an advantage over my 12W7, plus I only have 750W going to it (stupid 3ohm bs) but I had two e15K's and 1000W going to them ported and his was almost as loud as my 15's, and it totally blew them away in SQ.

SS's are made for SQ, while keeping the SPL high, not for competitions though. The SS takes up his whole trunk in his RSX, and I am sure he has more room than the S10, so unless they customly build it for you to the sizes of your truck (will probably cost even more money) then I don't think you'll be able to fit their real SS box back there.

Overall, I was impressed with the box, VERY impressed, however, I would never shell out $200-$300 for just a box. I am sure if I put 1500W to my W7, I'd be able to compete with the Brahma/SS combo. Plus, his is a lot smaller car (RSX vs my Blazer)

SS's are made for SQ, while keeping the SPL high, not for competitions though.

The whole pitch behind these things was the +9, 12, or whatever increase over a standard enclosure. High decibel level and good sound are easily attainable with the proper ported enclosure.

Yeah, but IIRC they were supposed to be a "super SQ box".......+9 or 11db (or something) over ported with the SQ of a sealed is what they were claiming. I've yet to see any proof of those claims other then people who are saying it's true just so they don't feel like they wasted $400 on a box.

How exactly does that “hit the nail on the head” if snail shells are $250 to build and I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and call shipping $70, which is international shipping charges? That's $320. And if you live in the states its probably only $50 for shipping.

I think you guys were misinformed. It is +9 db over sealed while retaining the SQ of the sealed. Cost way to much for my blood good ol ported box works fine. Unless I start farting money.
