Snail Shell? Whats that all about?

Hi all. I keep hearing about this "Snail Shell" box style.

There is tons of pictures on this page that show an XXX in one. (LOWER ON THE PAGE NOT ON THE TOP)

It's nothing but a rear-loaded horn...increases efficiency, peaks more than a sealed box but should sound excellent if it's built correctly. Horns are an arcane subject in audio...very misunderstood.

You're thinking of a tuned quarter-wave tube...also known as a "Voight pipe" or transmission line.

From the looks of those pics, that's way, way too small of a box to have a real quarter-wave line in there.
