Smaller Box

What are the issues with using a smaller box than recommended. I am not interested in having max SPL or anything, but I would like some room back in my trunk.

Can it harm the subs? Is sound the only issue?

FWIW - I have a pair of Fosgate T2 12s and a Kicker 2500.1.

2.0 a side - which is barely big enough as it is. I want to go down to 1.25 or so.
Is that ported or sealed? My Infinity 12's recomended 1.25 per sealed, and seems to be about average for a 12 sub so I don't think you would have too much trouble.

From what I have read the larger the sealed box the bettwe SQ to a point, and smaller the better the SPL (relative to a sealed box, ported still better for overall output.) The smaller the sealed box the harder the sub will have to work to move due to the "suspension" that the internal air volume makes. Power handling should essentially go up slightly, but efficiency may go down as the box gets smaller and the sub becomes harder to drive.

if you don't have much space why did u get 2 12s? Should have gotten 1 10' or 12' that recommends a small box ( infinity, image dynamics etc.)
