Small stereo system for college dorm

Im looking to start a small project for my college dorm next year. I want to create a small system to hook up to my computer. I want one 8-10" sub and 4 shelf speakers but i need some recommends. It doesn't need to be perfect i just want it to be decently loud and cheap.

on ebay the powered dual 12's and 10s run about 80-130 shipped a piece and get really loud....i think theyare 150 rms and 350 peak, sounded good inmy dorm last year, i also ran an earthquake supernova dual 15'' sub in there with a 1000 bash amp...got extremely loud aka being written up multiple times for it. But for the money the dual powered 10 '' is a nice woofer sounds good and is cheap

I need a price range, if you start small you might find that your equipment cost skyrockets fairly high. It was fairly easy for me to get ~2k into a dorm room in nothing flat.

If you're just looking for some PC speakers that'll get pretty loud, check out the logitech z680 set. It's discontinued but pretty darn good. The newer version (no idea what model) should be decent as well. I bought my set somewhere around four years ago and they're still going strong. I think I paid 350 back then... I know the 2.1 version sells for about $60 now.

All the logitechs I've heard had absolutley crappy high end on them. The got somewhat loud, but to me sounded like crap.

I say go for some MTM's or TM's and a smaller ported 8" and that'll do pleny for a dorm.

That's to be expected by a single, wide range (not full range) driver. But for the price, you can't beat it. 5.1 dolby and gets fairly loud cheap. The 680's are on ebay right now for $50 + shipping (current bid) - no they're not mine.

It was just a suggestion.

I have the Klipsch 5.1 ProMedia, I think you can pick up the 4.1 for like 150 or so. They sound really good, dual 8" sub too.

id def recommend a logitech z-5500. you will love it and theyre fairly cheap. you can get them online for around 220-250 shipped. itll get loud the sub is really impressive for the price trust me. ive owned a wide variety of logitech speakers and i love them all. get a z5500 and you wont be sorry but make sure you get one that use speaker wires not rca wires for the satellite speakers.
