small box vs larger box ?

Ok, narrowing down my choices here.

Before I purchase these Sundown SA speakers.

Should I.

a. Go with 2 10's on 1200 watts in a slightly larger enclosure

or

b. Go with 2 12's on 1200 watts in a slightly smaller enclosure.

Basically I have 3.5 cu to work with pretty much (maybe more depending on box calculations and the seat angle)....just wondering which would be better for my particular setup.

I can do H x 15 / W x 33 / and prefer the depth to be 18 at the top of box and maybe 20 at the bottom to maximize air space against the back seat.

Would have to calculate the angle of my seats but from a look that might be close...

Or should I do something different?

Just want to be sure before I dump money into the subs and a box.

based on option a or b (not doing ur box calculations), ull wanna go with 2 12's...UNLESS u have 3.5cu TOTAL to work with, then go with the 10s...a good box makes a HUGE difference

You won't be able to do a L shaped slot port with the angled back. You have 4.06ft^3 to work with if using 33x15x18...I say do three 10's in 3ft^3. Not enough room for a pair of 12's and a proper size port.

Hey Ram, do you think 3ft^3 is enough for 3 SA 10's? Sundown doesnt have their listed specs on the website so have no idea other then 12's wanting 1.75 ish.

On an internet dealer of Sundown they show 1.25 to 1.5 @ 30hz for the 10's.

Also, 3 10's on 1200 watts would do better then 2? I know its more cone area, but figure more juice would hit 2 of em then 3.

And lastly....it looks like DVC 2ohm is what I would want. That should get me somewhere around 1.3 ohms with 3. Is there a huge difference in power for .3 ohm?

In this case I'd just go with a pair of 10's.

I have a sealed box in there now I just built to get me by.

It is H x 15 (have very little to play here. Unless I cut some metal then maybe 16ish)

W x 33 (again...max unless I cut metal)

Depth is negotiable. Right now I believe the box I have is about 13" in depth, however I can do more.

If need be I will build the box in the trunk so I am not concerned too much about the trunk opening.

At about 20" is where it meets the top of my trunk (where the box would almost be flush with the trunk opening)

Yea...I think 2 10's in about 2.75ft^3 @ 30hz is what I will shoot for. Still give me some trunk to work with.

On average, how many ft^3 does bracing take up?

If I was to brace all the corners... with a double baffle and smaller size box not sure I would really need dowel rods and all that stuff.

Sure you can. The build is slightly more complicated, but nothing cosmic.
You'd just have to make some dead space at the back of the box to make it vertical in order to have the port follow, but most of the time people have slanted boxes because they're cramped on space anyways.
