Small box question

Can I live?
A friend of mine who works at a stereo shop around here says that since I don't have enough room in my trunk for a 8cuft box I can make it smaller ( 6cuft) and tune it to the same freq I would tune the right one to, and just give it a ****load of power and I'll be fine. Is this true or is he just talking out of his arse? If I don't have enough room for a large enough enclosure in my trunk, and this option does work, what would be the downside?

you'll suffer a little on the low end. it also depends on what sub. you can't compare a kicker cvr to an RE SE for example. the cvr needs around 5 cubes to perform closer to optimal. the RE only needs around 4 cubes. the RE SR performs well in 3.0-3.5. if i remember right, you have CVR 15's. right? they'll do ok in 4 cubes ported. probably be fine in a daily driver. or are you doing sealed.

edit: on second thought, a ported box at 4 cubes actually is larger than 4 cubes total box volume + port. you'd actually have to go down in to the high 3's. maybe 3.6 to keep the entire box volume under 4 cubes per sub.

I have a treo ssi15, but this is for a CSX/DP hybrid18. I was wanting to do about 5 cuft after displacement, But I'm not sure it will be enough space
