Slightly underpower or greatly overpower subwoofer?

Hi all! First post, so I apologize in advance if I break any rules.

I have a rare old Alpine MRV-1000 2-channel amplifier that doesn't match up well with my Infinity 860W Reference subwoofer (sealed box). I'm wondering if there is a configuration (or gain setting) that will allow me to use them together, or if I should just sell it off and buy another amp instead. My car is a 2011 Honda Fit and I'll be using a Sony HU

The specs for the amp are 100W@4ohms stereo, 200W@2ohms stereo, or 400w bridged (at 12v). However according to this website (Rare ALPINE MRV-1000 amp - Ford Focus Forum, Ford Focus ST Forum, Ford Focus RS Forum) the actual RMS ratings could be 150% of stated specs.

The sub is rated for 250W@4ohms with a single voice coil. (Infinity 860W Reference 8" Single 4 ohm Car Subwoofer)

I believe I have 3 options, let me know what you think:

1) Underpowered. 100W@4ohms stereo. Use only one side of the stereo channel to power the amp (is there anything problematic about this?) According to the site, actual RMS may be as much as 160W. People are reporting on Amazon (https://www.amazon.ca/Infinity-Reference-860w-High-Performance-Subwoofer/dp/B002GHBUFY) that they are using 150W and 160W amps.

2) Overpowered. Bridged 400W@4ohms. According to that website again, actual testing show RMS to be 610W and 668W on some sample subs. This is waaay over the 250W RMS rating on the sub. Can the gain be turned down low enough to avoid destroying the sub?

3) Buy another amp that better suits this sub. Any offers to buy my amp or sell me yours? :-D

Thanks in advance for your input!
