Slant face box - Cut angles

So I'm going to try my first slant face box with my new table saw.

9" tall

16" wide

20" deep-bottom

17" deep-top

The face of the box is going to sit at about a 20* angle.

On the front board, can I just cut each end at an opposite 20* angle?

OR

Cut one end at 70* and the mating board at 20*, bringing the angles together at a 90*?

The first option gives me a lot less to screw up. Box isn't going to be anything fancy, more so just a practice box for the heck of it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I would try cutting each end at opposite 20 degree angles (first option)...just so you'd pretty much keep it all the same cut-wise, which should translate into the pieces fitting better than changing up the angle for different cuts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That's why my gut tells me. Just wasn't sure if one way was stronger than the other.

I have room for bracing anyway, so probably not an issue. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

switch the fence to the other side of the table, and keep the blade fixed as much as possible. it'll change from a 20 degree angle to a 70 degree angle without moving the cutting blade.

It isn't too hard. Cut the first side at the desired angle, then rotate your board 180 degrees clockwise and run it through again.

On this one, the top and bottom of the baffle have the angled cuts.

Whats the brown stuff at the seams? Some kind of sealant or just brown wood glue?

Well all I have to do is cut the sides and mount the feet (another downfire box).

I'll be sure to post up some pics..

It's just glue or caulk. I wanted to make sure it was completely sealed so I went a little overboard //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

a wet rag would cure that problem. i go overboard on everything, so lots of rags are neccesary.

Yeah I wasn't really going for looks...it was going behind the passenger seat in my truck. I don't even own a sander so I knew it wasn't going to turn out too pretty.

I hear ya! I usually use an entire tube of liquid nails inside just about every box I build.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Who cares when nobody will see it, especially if it's getting covered in carpet anyway..

if its for practice, why not use small scraps about 6" wide and 12-18" long. it allows you to hone your skills on a few practice pieces and easier to mock up a box and evaluate your skills before you move on to larger projects.
