i got a Kenwood KAC-7204[500w rms bridged @ 4ohm] . i made a 12x12x12 box [sealed 1.0cu.ft]. right now i got a Kicker 07CVR12

im looking for a 12inch sub that does very well in SQ and SPL.

space is an issue so i cannot do a dual setup. most of the posts[did a search] on this forum are for 2 or more subs.i don't even have much space for a ported box.

i can probably put in a bigger sealed box [custom built 3/4in MDF] if the sub demands it.

i was looking at a kicker L5 12in , they hit hard but their SQ is not that good. i would like a sub that hits just as hard if not harder than a L5.

i got a budget of $500. slightly more if its worth it. post suggestions

Um, is 12x12x12 the external or internal dimensions? If it's internal you might be ok, if it's the external dimensions and your using 3/4" MDF, your down to .67ft3 not including the sub displacement. I'd be prepared to build a new box....

To answer your question, look into the RE SE12, JL w6, Fi, ID or IDMAX. Do a search, you'll find LOADS of information and 10,000,000 other people asking the same question.

EDIT: If space is that big of an issue, I'd STRONGLY suggest looking into some of the shallow mount subs. And you need 3/4" MDF 99.9% of the time.

those are internal dimensions, i used a volume calculator to get the exact dimensions for a 1.0 cu ft box[empty]. i did not calculate the space that the sub takes up though

would shallow mount subs hit as hard regular ones?

im only finding these subs at dual 4ohm. do they make these subs at dual 2 ohm

What's the max size box you can fit(external)? If you can get a little larger sealed enclosure to fit in there, the RE SE12 will sound very good and get loud as well.Only requires a 1.0-1.2ft3 after the .15ft3 sub displacement. If you read up on them there are a LOT of people(including myself) that are nothing but very impressed with it. But with $500 you have a LOT of choices, so it's up to you. But all I can say is you will be very happy with an SE12. Also, the JL w6, ID/IDMAX, Fi, and a bunch of others are very good subs(although a little more expensive than the RE SE), and they do well in small sealed enclosures. Do some research and if you have a question about a certain sub than let us know. With any of those choices you can't go wrong. The IDMAX requires a little larger box, it may actually be too big for your requirements.

Shallow Mount - I would get the JL over the Pioneer ANY DAY.

JL TW5-3 is a single 3 ohm

Pioneer Premier is a single 4ohm

that jl tw5 looks good [found it for $350] but im not sure if the 3ohm impedance will damage my amp?

is the performance of the tw5 as good as the re se12 ?

RE SE12 dual 2ohm. ive read alot of great things about this sub [ i just hope the reviews are performance and not price based]

where can i buy the re se12 sub [ online cheap. { other than EBAY }]

i just went ahead and bought a RE SE12 D2. will post my own review
Cool!

Just remember, the displacment for the SE12 is .15ft3. So, if the sealed box you built is made from 3/4 MDF, try it out.... and if you don't like it that make one atleast 1.15ft3 to make a total of 1ft3 after displacment. I've got mine in a 1.2ft3 after displacement and it HAMMERS the lows..... and sounds very good. Although, I do plan on porting it soon...

P.S. You definatly need 3/4" MDF for this sub.

im gonna build a new box at around 1.2cu ft. gonna try to make it wider and flat [ triangular box ]

can someone tell me a good web site for a sub box calculator?

Well, are you talking about a wedge or hatchback box, where the top depth is shorter and bottom depth is longer? If so, check this link out http://www.bcae1.com/spboxnew2.htm. Otherwise, it's (L x W x D)/1728. Dont forget to include the material thickness of .75" in your calculations if your doing it without the calculator.

i think that an Image Dynamics 12" IDmaxv3d2 would be perfect. I have ran mine sealed with 1k rms and ported with 250-300rms... i like it better ported with 250-300rms, but it is EXTREMELY efficient and sounds wonderful. You cannot go wrong if you buy Image Dynamics. I have never ran into anything i didnt like from ID!!

the sub i bought was a RE SE12 dual 2ohm, building another box for it, all i need a good amp for it

BUDGET: around $500

im looking for an amp that has EXCELENT SPL AND SQ

AN AMP THAT CAN DO 600W rms[or whatever is the max rms for my sub] @ 4ohm and higher at 2 ohms

i just hooked up my sub and it does not thump at all. i thought that maybe its the amp so i hooked up my old kicker[cvr], the kicker gave its usual thump but when hooked up the re se12 again it still sounded low. i did get some nice thump for like about half a second but it went back to sounding low. is there a break in period for these subs or did i get a bad one?

Do you have it wired in series to get a 4ohm load?

I'd check for loose wires on the sub.

If all is good, put a DMM and check the ohm load on the sub.

it is working , just not as good as the kicker comp cvr [not even close]. while the music is playing i do get a quick burst [half a second] of some really good bass but then it dies down [at random]

it is wired in series [ 4ohm total output]

it is working so there is no loose wires

ill try a DMM tomorrow morning.
