Single or Dual 10" with only .75 cu ft

Just picked up a Nissan 350z and want to add a sub. I found zenclosures.com and they make a very nice little box that tucks under the rear strut brace trim. They claim the box is only .75 cu ft and wondering what I should do for a sub. I was thinking about getting a single IDQv3 10 but wondering what else people would recommend. I also can get a deal on Diamond Audio D3/D6 but haven't really heard their stuff. Amp will either be a PDX 4.150 or Sundown 100.4 and Id like to just bridge the rear channels to the sub which would only give me about 300-400wrms. If needed I could add a second sub amp and just get a 2CH for my front components, but if possible would like to stick with one amp...what do you guys think??

.75 would be pretty tiny for two 10's, considering the airspace will be a lot smaller once you actually put the 10's in it.

I haven't run the T/S math on the IDQ10 before, but I will post some graphs if you want. My guess would be a single 10 would be better, though.

That is probably at the higher end of its' optimal sealed box range.

a pair of base RE 10's they come in dual 4's would work in that airspace...your power would be perfect for them
From RE's site, it says the compact end is .35 per woofer, sealed. Then of course there's going to be displacement of the woofer itself. It would be close, but you're right, that's a possible fit for 2 10's. It would be a bit boomy, which might be a good thing considering it's not a lot of cone/box area.

The main thing to consider is, how deep do you want it to go. 2 10's in .35 each sealed, aren't going to get very deep, and they'll lose some "bite" on the kick drums, but they'll out spl a single 10 from 40-80hz.

Have you considered an isobaric install, with dual isobaric 12's, or dual large box 10's, in a ported enclosure?

Isobarics take twice the power to run, and are -3db from a single woofer, but the box size is half as small, which lets you run a vented box. Going ported can give over +3db gain, so it compensates for the isobaric reduction.

On the down side, isobarics are harder to design and install, but they're pretty impressive when you're talking small box design.

I think I like the idea of running a single ten..I just threw dual 10s on there cuz I saw they sold it, but that really isnt enough volume for 2 subs. There really isnt alot of room to work with so ported is pretty much out of the question unless I made a box extend out behind the strut/tower area(pictures below) but Id rather save the cargo space since this thing is tiny enough, I would assume a single 10" inside this small of a cabin would give decent results...Just looking for opinions on what would work in this small of an application...They make the box in a 12 as well but it looks kinda lame with having to trim out the carpet in front of the sub:

Here is with their "amp rack" which could be an expansion onto the existing enclosure for more volume I would think

It looks like good eye candy, but I agree that cutting the carpet area for a 12 isn't as clean. I'd say, go with a single 10 that's designed for .65 (the speaker will take up about .1 itself). Stuff it with polyfill to spec, and you should get good results.

The idea of isobaric is that the subs will see double the air inside, so it would be closer to 1.4ft3, minus the port, so around 1.1-1.2ft3 ported. It's a more complicated install, requires more power, and you'll have a woofer exposed on the back side (which honestly looks pretty f'n cool), but it would produce more thump. You'll also have an exposed woofer that you'll need to protect, and depending on where you live, may increase the threat of theft.

A single, sealed 10, will sound better for deep bass, but 2 10's will be better for boomy bass, as they will accentuate the upper bass frequencies. An isobaric ported will hit the hardest, but cost twice as much to do (amps and speakers), and take a lot more time to design.

Yeah I think Im going to stick with a single 10...Like I said, I could have the back of it built out but the single box looks so clean and doesnt take up and room, and two 10" subs might be too loud for this car...The IDQv3 seems like such a great sub...Also thought about a w7 but the enclosure may be a little small and a tad underpowered if I ran a single amp.

The IDQ 10 V3 would work great in that enclosure. 400W would be enough to push it fairly well too. Running one in my g/f's car off 500W and it sounds great in a .8 sealed box.

W7's aren't high juice subs. If you can run a w7 sealed, I'd bet money that it would out do the idq, but it would cost twice as much, if not more.

The excursion on the w7's is what makes them impressive.

Sure, people in the forums love to talk shit on JL, but there's a reason the company lead the industry for years. The W6 series 1, were some of the best subs ever made, and lots of companies copied the designs from JL, JBL, CV, etc...

There are only a couple subs on the planet that can beat a JLw7, cuft3 vs cuft3, and it's not made by fi or aq. The trick is, how much do you want to spend? If money was unlimited, most people here would run GTI's or W7's. even if they claim otherwise. Until you replace your alternator, you can't run high rms subs anyways.

/edit: I haven't heard the idq's, but they're highly rated for sq, the jbl gti's i've heard and can say they're great sq, the jl w7 i haven't tested for sq and can't say it sounds good but the w6 12's are musical (original series)
