single cab ranger

well, I finaly have the oportunity to ditch the car I have now and am getting a pretty good deal on a early 90s ranger. As mentioned in the title it's a single cab truck, so speaker room is prime reality. I have been reading the recent threads about the shallow mount subs, and personally I'm not impressed with them. I was searching the web lately and looked at these.

I have no idea what space is available in the truck, but they are very small (like maybe .6 cu ft). I was thinking maybe 2 in a sealed box but most likeley 1 in a ported box. I know of the reputation that they have for sq, and am really interested.

I am looking to power them with my Alpine MRP-M350, because it was a great little amp that I could mount under the seat.

mono channel

200 watts RMS - 4 ohm

350 watts RMS - 2 ohm

My real question is, do you think I will gain anything by using these or just find a less deep normal sub. I'd like to stay with tens.

blowthrough
NO WAY! I dont need any more holes in anymore cars. Especially ones that are caused on purpose.

As for the others......

- will the 8"s sound like the tens. Ive had a couple pairs of 8's (not TB's though) and wasn't too impressed. Although the AA assasins look pretty mean, just like the DD's.

- Do you really think there is that much room in there. last I checked, behind the seat there was only like 6 - 7in of space at the bottom. But, I say you would know more than I would. I guess once I get the car here I can measure accurately.

Anyhow thanks for the input!

im in the same boat as you ditching all my audio stuff now,

looking at getting a tacoma single cab.

my friend had a pair of 10w1 in his single cab ranger, in small sealed boxes and with just a punch 60. rattled my eyeballs and itch my nose so bad, so thats what ima try to do with a pair of 8" sealed behind the passenger side and run the amps behind the driver side or under the seats.

check out those TB 5 1/4 with the neo motors, those would be sic in the doors w/40-50w for midbass.

Yeah, I get what you're saying, but how deep are the doors? like I said I will have to get the truck here to make measurements.

How deep are the 10w1's, and I saw that the Alpine Type-s 's are their shallow mounts now. The originals sounded OK, and would probably fit the bill.

Some people would complain about the lack of info and options, but I think it makes it too **** hard to decide! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

as for the ported 8"s, how big of a box, and to what freq?

your gonna have to wait till you get the truck and measure,

but im shur you could use some mdf spacers for the doors.

na its fun choosing hehh.

his boxes were sealed and i might go sealed also.

I'm leaning twords sealed too...it just seems less complicated for a build like this. I think they are more forgiving, and usually have better results when considering such a small space.

I still think I want the subs behind the seats, to make theives go bye-bye. More I hear bout em makes me sick.

hey, there was a guy on the box building part of the forum that had a single cab 1500 chevy. something like bibbily.......he had 2 polk tens IIRC. that looked promising, but his pics stopped working for some reason.

the 8" subs will give you decent output and possibly get louder than a sealed setup. i would go with either the TB 8s or the AA 8s. there was a video on ROE of 4 8" AA asassins. looked and sounded pretty good. an 8" setup is what i would go with in a single cab truck with the port firing towards the side wall with about 4-6" between the port opening and the wall of the cab. aero ports would be easiest to use but a square port would work also. i hope this helps you out man. good luck

Nick

The jl10w1 are 5.5'' deep, I think. Their website has the info. I have 2 behind the rear seat of my crewcab. They sound good in a sealed box. I dont listen to much, if any rap, so Im happy. If you like rap you wont like a small sealed box. If I remember correctly thei have about .5 cf each.

Ranger's = poo for speakers, but you can squeeze in two 10"s sealed with the right box, or 2 8"s ported. It's definitely a tight fit though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
