Ok guys, I have a 06 12" Type R 4ohm that I want to put in a ported box. The manual for the sub says 1.7cubes at 33 or 34hz i think. Should I go by that or is there any better dimensions for the box? Keep in mind I will be powering this with a Rockford P4004 its rated at 200Wx2 @ 4ohm however the spec sheet says it gives out 550RMS total. I listen to all kinds of music and I don't like it when its too boomy and distorted, but I want it to hit nice and tight but still be able to feel/hear it form teh outside.... So what box size do you suggest?

Hmm.. 2.5.. that'll turn out to be kind of a big box, its goin in a Acura Legend sedan, and hte trunk is pretty small //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif .. but i guess i can live wiht it.

also.. ive heard its good to put eggcrate foam around the interior of hte box to eliminate standing waves. Would you guys recommend it?

so all of you guys recommend a bigger then the recommended 1.7 box? It won't be distorted and too boomy? I'm just used to usually going by the manufacturers recommendations for stuff like this.

right now i have a 3 cube @ 34 box with 52 sq inches of port area. it wanged hard as helll. except yesterday i was benching my hifonics bxi 1206d and my 12'' type R blew.

i know that tcab was doing 2.75 cubes in his boxes.

today i am actaully doing a design for a guy. double chamber, 2.75 cubes each with 42 sq inches of port area tuned to 32. its for 12''type R's powered by a hercules and its going in a truck, that should be really loud.

Ok, so what I ended up making was this:

2.25 at 32hz.

It is f'n loud, however the sound quality is shit.. Its too boomy, and all over the place. Its not tight like i wanted it to be. I have a Avic N1 with a parametric equalizer and crossover built in.. plus the crossover on the RF P4004 amp so i shoudl have enough tuning capability. I am now thinking of putting something inside the box.. maybe get some fat carpet, and carpet the walls inside.. or eggcrates.. or polyfill?.. what do you guys suggest?

if you woulda said you wanted it tight we coulda told you sealed thats what i have mine in 2 12" 06 Model R's with 300 watts in each sub and it sounds sweet

its like 1.75 cubes in each chamber
