Single 12" sub in crew cab truck?

I am looking at purchasing a single 12" sub to go in my 2004 F350 Crew Cab.

I am going to be building a rear console to go between the front and rear seats.

I have (2) questions:

Which 12" sub will be the best with around 1000 watts going to it? Listening to rap music mostly and some rock + roll. I want it as loud as I can get it without losing clarity.

Also, what type of enclosure would you recommend? Downfiring? Sealed or Vented? I have about 2.0 cuft to work with.

Thanks for all the help everybody,

Brent

I was leaning towards the Fi Q.

What would be the advantage in going ported over sealed? I have never built or tuned a ported box, so that would be all new to me. Not that I wouldn't do it, I am just wondering.

Would I place the sub facing down? If so, how much airspace would be needed underneath it?

Sorry for all of the questions, I just want to get it right the first time.

Thanks

Down firing and at least half the width of your port for clearance, or 1.5 inches to allow for the subs excursion. Fi recomended ported sizes are spot on and tune from 32-40 depending on how much low end you wnat to sacrifice for impact and one-note-wonderness.

I have always preferred the sound from a sealed enclosure. Maybe because I have never heard a really good sub in a ported one, lol

What would be the disadvantage of running this sub sealed?

Thanks,

Brent

sealed is usually a bit more controlled on the subs movements, but this is generally speaking. A ported enclosure also takes a bit more room, but when built right should have a similar response curve as a sealed box and should give much more output.

Personally I like sealed boxes, but I don't have too much experience with good ported ones. Sealed is simpler to build/design and also easier to install since it usually requires much less space.

Not sure if you have the 40/20/40 bench up front like I have in my truck or if you have the center console but I am planning on removing the cushion on the center jump seat and putting the sub there while keeping the upper console. I got the bottom cushion removed and looks like I can get about 2cubes in the area without removing the upper console and without protruding too much into the back seats nor up front towards the dash. I am hoping for a semi stealth install with the subs downfiring and the box in grey carpet to match my interior.

All the recommendations above are very good, might also want to look into the SSA Icon, SI Magnum V4, and I think there are a few others out there too.

I have the buckets up front and the console in the middle (Harley Davidson Edition). I have the most room for a sub between the front and rear seats. I really want to keep my console.

I will probably go sealed if possible, I know that the output will suffer some, but I am sure that I will still be happy with the sound.

Thanks everybody, keep the opinions coming!

mmm Harley Edition, those sure are sexy. Could probably make a nice little sealed box that will mold to the edge of the seat and the back side of the console for a downfiring 12. Cover it in some black carpet and maybe put some cupholders in the top and/or a nice tasteful plexi viewing window.

OH, do you have buckets in the back seat too, or the bench? Should be sweet, I have yet to get mine in but I am thinking a sealed 12" off 1000w right up next to you will be pretty good compared to a ported 12 back in a trunk.

With a full 2 cubes you might be able to get away with a single sealed 15" downfiring. I believe last I measured there is about 17" between the 2 front seats, so it shouldn't be too wide. Just a thought it all.
