single 10'' vs single 12''

Hi everyone -

I'm sure that this topic has been covered before, but I need a quick run-down on the pros and cons of a 10" vs a 12". I'm going to be installing a system in a boat, and I will be using the infinity 5760 as the amp. In 5 channel mode, it will push 283 watts to the sub.

I need to figure out which sub will be better for me, a 10" or a 12". Either way it will be in a type 1 sealed box. I listen to mostly country and some of the newer rock/alternative. I won't be listening to rap very often.

So what do ya'll think? Let me know which you think would be better, and why.

i would go with a 10" sub because the bass would be tighter and more accurate (in most cases). or if u dont need that much bass, or would like to save space, u could pick up a nice 8" woofer

Not true. The box is what determines the sound. A small box would be punchy, midsize can be a nice blend, large would have very nice low end.

Regarding box size, I'm probably just going to use what is recommended... for the 10'' it's about .6 cubic feett... for the 12'' it's 1 cubic foot...

it all depends on what 10 or 12 you are using. i know of a 15 the recommends 4 cubic feet sealed.

and i know of a 8 that requires .1 cubic feet sealed. my 10 says 1.5... its woofer dependant.

id say go with a good 12 (image dynamcis IDQ, adire shiva) are two woofers that come to mind... great SQ and moderate loudness, in a good sealed box, they will sound fantastic i would think.

How much do those run? I was specifically looking at getting an Infinity Perfect, either a 10'' or 12''....

go sealed with perfects. they have great sq at moderate listening volumes. a very unique sounding woofer. go to ebay you can find a perfect 10 for under 100 shipped.
