Single 10" sub in the trunk?

Hello everyone.

New to car audio and I was wondering if a single 10" would be enough in the trunk of my car. I recently bought a 1991 Dodge Dynasty to drive to work, and the radio was not working. So I bought a new HU and also decided to upgrade speakers. Current setup is a JVC KD-HDR1 head unit with MB Quart DKG 113 5.25" speakers in the doors and MB Quart DKG 169 6"X9" speakers in the back. I think the sound quality is great for coaxial speakers.

Now back to the sub. Some have advised me to get at least a 12" sub, but I don't want to take up to much trunk space (usefull for hauling gear to the ball field or going to the grocery store). I really feel like a single 10" will give me enough output, possibly with porting the rear deck where the 6"x9"s are at. I don't need to get super loud, but decent sound quality would be nice. Two subs that I have been looking at are the T3 TS10d4 and the RE Audio SE10D2. From what I have read both should sound good (in the right enclosure) and have decent output. Found both subs for just over $100 each. That is great because I don't want to spend alot on a car I bought primarily for work.

Any help will be appreciated.

The RE SE's are pretty good woofers, to be honest, but I dont have any experience with the T3.

One ten inch speaker should give you all of the sound you want out of the trunk granted you have a decent box to boot.

Does your rear seat let down? If so, a standard slot ported box rear firing will probably do the trick - if not some type of bandpass ported through the rear deck like you talked about.

Tens can get loud, you know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have a 10" t3 tss in the trunk of my camry right now. It sounds pretty good and has decent output. Compared to my hdc3 15" though you can hardly tell its back there.

The T3 may be a good choice then. I'm sure it doesn't compare to your Hdc3. I made an offer on the T3, just waiting to hear back about it. If the guy doesn't except the offer, I may go with the SE (it is priced a little higher).

Well, it is going to be the T3 TS-10d4. The guy had two of them new in the box. He gave me a great deal, so I bought both of them. Now I have to decide whether I should run both or just one as planned originally. Guess it is time to start building some enclosures and choosing an amp also.

I think I will run them both. I should be able to put them in seperate boxes just behind the wheel wells. Maybe angled in slightly. That will allow for plenty of trunk space. Glad to hear they sound good.
