Since we're on the subject...

benefits: traffic, sleep in, management goes home earlier (if applies), alcoholics hours if u enjoy teh boozeing, diferential pay (if applies). Time during moring/early afternoon to run errands while stores/places are open. cons:no more life family/friends, mow lawn at odd hours (possibly) get late start to weekend, work with weirdos, nothing else comes to mind. but no more life family/friends/late start to weekend are big ones.
The way I look at it, Im away from my family more now than I would be at night. If I get off at 7a.m. I could be up til around 3-4 pm with them.. sleep til ~!0ish then go to work. Right now I'm working 6 to 3:30.. come home tired as hell from manual labor, shower eat and have 2-3 hours with the family then its bed time. Just seems like it would make more sense that I could spend more time with family not being at work while they are awake and then coming home a few hours before bed time. lol

oh 11-7 is terrible man I thought u meant u started later, dont take that shiftHORRIBLE SHIFT. You no longer have a day or a night u work during the entire day.

sucky shift don't do it.. I don't mind working 1pm+ start time but don't start 11pm-noon thats no fun at all.
That is what I mean. 11 at night to 7 in the morning //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I like my job...but there are a lot of things that go on that I dont like. Not that they effect me directly, but they are there.
I know money isnt everything...but with a newborn and prices of everything going up, its hard to keep up at my current pay rate. the new position would start out at almost what my current position tops out at.
No matter where you go, what you do stuff will happen you dont like! If you are in a dire situation and must sacrifice to get out of it you dont have a choice. Only you can decide that

i work 3rd shift but i only work 2 days one week and 5 the next. so its not so bad for me. days off i can stay up all day and be with family, friends, or during business hours. days i work i can either come home sleep and get up early or stay up for while do what needs to be done, or hang with whoever, then bed

This is why I work third shift, more time with the family. Be forewarned you are always tired no matter how much or little you sleep.

In all honesty it sounds like you already made a decision.
Well my decision is that I want to do whats best for my family. If that means busting my ass in all weather or working a 3rd shift job, so be it. Its just hard to make a decision when my gf wont give me an honest opinion on what she thinks is best for us. I have a phobia when it comes to change. I like to keep things steady and know whats ahead. Situations like this send my mind into a whirlwind of confusion. Somewhat scared that I'll make the wrong decision and somewhat excited about the opportunity to better myself for my family. This is a city job, which is a relatively good position to be in around here. If everything doesnt pan out, Im stuck with factory work or some other stuff that I try to stay away from.

I worked overnight full time for 3 years. This week was actually my last week there because I finally got a new job. I would not recommend it. However I can't say how it will effect you because different people react differently. I worked 11PM-7AM then had to be in class at 8AM. I hear a lot of people saying that you will lose all your friends and social life but usually those people have never worked overnight or have only done it for a little while. I still managed to have a life and do other things besides just work. The worst part for me was barely getting any sleep. I averaged 3-4 hours of sleep a day. But the main reason I left was because of the actual job, not the hours. You can pm me for more info about my experiences working overnight or if you have any questions.

I work nights nights ****. The simply dont have enough quality benefits to working at night. and I cant sleep during the day. I have to take cat naps, 2 hours at a time. I usually end up with 5 hours of broken sleep. Steer away from night jobs if you can help it.

I work for a major electrical provider in the southeast in corp security, my shift is seven on/seven off 6 twelve hour shifts and one 8 hour shift nights. I get to spend more time with my family, the knutt huggers and a$$ kissers are at home asleep, a $1.00 shift diff and the traffic is always in the other direction. If you really want the shift, you can adjust, I put black-out drapes in the bedroom, have a fn in the room and I do just fine. I love it and would not have it any other way. Just my 0.02.

pretty much got it. I do 4:30 to 4:30, one month of days one month of nights....you just kinda get used to nights

i work 3rd shift occasionally and hate it.. you basically sleep all day and get nothing done like you would after working days..you think you will be able to but it never works out that way ..i end up sleeping more than i normally would working days and seems like all i do is work/sleep.. i guess if you worked it consistently for awhile you would develop a schedule for it but its never worked well for me and i dread night turn.

do you get pay differential for working night turn? if not i doubt i would take the job especially if you do have kids because when will you spend time with them? you will be sleeping all day while they are up because chances are when you get off it will be hard to go straight to sleep so you will be going to sleep when the kid gets up and leaving for work when they are already asleep..

what do you do by the way bro?
